Installing on Windows

Windows has two downloads. The installer (Setup.exe) puts Fouvia Studio on the machine with a desktop and Start menu shortcut. The portable build is a single .exe that runs without installing anything, handy for trying it out first.

1. Download the installerClick the Windows download button. Fouvia-Studio-win-x64-Setup.exe goes to your Downloads folder.
2. Get past SmartScreenWhen you open the file, Windows shows a blue screen saying it protected your PC. Click More info, then Run anyway. The warning shows up because the installer is not code-signed yet, which changes when the app leaves beta.
3. Pick a folderThe installer asks where to install. The default is fine for almost everyone. Tick the desktop and Start menu shortcut boxes if you want to find the app more easily later.
4. Finish and openClick Install and wait for the bar. When it is done, Fouvia Studio opens on its own and the recording bar appears at the bottom of the screen.

The portable build

Fouvia-Studio-win-x64-Portable.exe runs straight from the file, with no install. Use it to try the app on a machine you would rather not touch, or to carry it in a shared folder. Two differences: it creates no shortcuts and it does not associate .fouv files with the app, so saved projects have to be opened from inside Fouvia.

How it differs from the Mac build

Recording, the editor, automatic zoom and export work the same on both systems. A few features rely on Apple technology and stay Mac-only:

• Recording an iPhone or iPad screen, which goes through macOS iPhone Mirroring.
• The polished cursor, which strips the recorded pointer and draws a new one on top. On Windows the real cursor is baked into the video, but click sounds and click-driven zoom still work.
• Hiding desktop icons while you record.
